Exploring the Great West American landscape, especially in the challenging Covid 19 times, has had the strongest impact on me. It has brought home to me the essence of life at its most forceful and insightful, immersed in beauty, power, peace and freedom. My work strives to communicate nature’s universal message of healing and joy as I relive those sensations while painting the awe-inspiring scenes I experienced with their timeless monumental forms, vast spaces and imposing skies. Quick, on-site sketches capture the moment. Then, memorializing those scenes with thick acrylics and knives, mixing and working their rich colors and textures straight onto boards and canvases with spontaneous gestures and markings, allowing myself to surrender to the paint and to immediacy of expression, I celebrate these landscapes’ essential messages and my place within them.

Painting with Purpose

In November 2022, I donated one of my paintings, “Remembering Bears Ears”, to the Bears Ears Partnership (BEP), an organization dedicated to the protection of the Bears Ears National Monument in southeast Utah, for their annual fundraising auction. It was as much a symbolic as a concrete meaningful gesture, something I had to do, to give back to these incredible lands and timeless Pueblo culture, for their life-changing impact on me and on my work during Covid. It was very rewarding to know that my painting raised significant funds for BEP’s essential protection, education and restoration efforts on the ground. In November 2023, I successfully donated more paintings for the same purpose.
